Well, I took another spill this week and this time camera, lens and all in the water so I am processing older files. This one from the same day I took my first spill.. Thank God for insurance. Those waders can be tricky to walk in. This is one of my fave horned Grebe shot so far. Nothing dynamic but I love the softness of the water and and bg. I usually get them wet with water drops but this guy is pretty dry. I have been pretty lucky this year finding these guys and they seem to not mind me coming close to them in the water..

Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark III
Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/1000
ISO Speed 320
Lens EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +2.0x

C&C appreciated

That creamy water really makes this shot - plus the nice detail in the grebe, bright eye, and the bit of "wake" -
Sure sorry about the salt-water bath again - but - yes, thank God for insurance!

Nice low angle Cheryl. Love the "bow" wave too. Your very narrow DOF created the soft water, which is very nice IMO. Nice light and sharpness on the bird tops this one off for me. Very nice. Hope you get your equip back soon.

A terrific image - I love the understated colors and the very low viewpoint. The spill sounds like a nasty experience.

Cool Grebe with a sad Tale, Cheryl.
I love the way the oof foreground melds with the oof background minimizing the focus band effect. Really makes this pop.

Great shot - the DOF is perfect for the low angle. Sorry to her about the spill.

Beautiful image. Excellent detail and sharpness in the grebe. The DOF (which I don't see listed) has given just the right look to the water. I love it. Sorry to hear about your spills. I was just working on insurance today. I've been going dangerously bareback until now-lucky so far, but can't hold up forever.

Cheryl,
I don't think you can get any lower than you did for this shot. It's your trademark. Beautiful head position with just the right amount of turn. Nice and sharp. Too bad about the spill. Insurance is a must and you get all new gear but the down time stinks. Good luck.

Cheryl, this is beautiful--love the softness of water (as you very nicely described it) along with the nice sharp bird in good light.

I'm really sorry to hear about the soaking and glad to hear that you're insured. I have renter's insurance which covers all my personal property but recently added a rider covering all loss or damage w/o deductible for my big lens. Hope you are back in business soon.

Beautiful, Cheryl. I like the low angle. If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone in the sinking of the camera experience (I've sunk a few). :toast:

The low perspective, angle of light and feather detail look great on the larger image. I like how the red eye really draws you into the image, excellent shot, way to go.
