Hyde's Mill in Winter

I have photographed this old mill several times and I think I enjoy it most in the winter. It was built in 1850 and I'm glad that it is still in pretty good condition. I hope it last for that many more years too. This mill is in Iowa Co in S.W. WI and only about 20 miles from my home. This was made in the late afternoon light which seems to be the best time to make a picture there for me. I enjoyed the fresh snow and the warm late afternoon light. The larger version shows this much better.

Here is a picture of the old stone grinding wheels that are also at the mill. Thought you might enjoy seeing them as well. Thanks for looking. Nick

Wonderful light for this view and these colors. Even though it's in winter the light gave you a great richness here. I especially enjoy looking at the larger version.

Wonderful showcase of light on display. I think you gave the photo just enough time on the shutter to get a nice subtle blur to the water flow.

Just by guessing what this would look like in summer, I think your winter version really brings a sense of peace to the scene. The snow adds just a little extra to the scene, and the late afternoon light looks great.

Nice Nick

I like it the warmth of the sun and the cool of ice works very well together.

I love the mood and old-world feel of this, but I wish that big white sign wasn't there on the side!

Thanks much for your comments on this so far.
Bill, That would be nice if that sign wasn't there. I have always wished that too! This property is for sale and maybe the next owner will take the sign down. Just a smaller sign over by the stone wheels would work well I think. Thanks, Nick

This is a nice shot perfectly processed. The soft light and especially the subtle shadows really set the mood. I'll bet the air smelled great. :toast:
