Oceanside, OR, around New Year.
ISO100, 21mm, 1/4s, f/14,Canon5D M2. Composite of 2 exposures. Cropped to 4x5 ratio (removed sky).

The scene had high contrast, colors were unusually saturated for the coast. Not sure about processing, especially in shadows and the sky.

C&C appreciated

Really nice scene. I love the sky and the reflection in the water in the foreground. The composition is nice, but the one thing that does bother me a little is the sun. If it were mine, I would have waited for the sun to reach the horizon and create a sunstar and eliminate the sun as a big orange and yellow ball. I say this because when I keep looking at the image, my eyes get stuck there, and there are a lot of nice elements in the distance that it takes away from. I could actually see maybe even a slight boost in saturation as well. Just my two cents, so take it for what it's worth. Would have loved to been there during this moment for sure!

My comment here is going to be a bit lame, but I agree with just about everything Peter said. He hit the nail on the head there. Great comp, but the size of the sun really grabs a ton of attention.

I really like the various elements and composition in this image! But I agree with Peter about the sun and saturation.

Thanks, that makes sense - the bright sun grabs too much attention.

In this case waiting didn't work, as in 5 minutes the sun was hidden by the low clouds on a horizon and most of the pattern was blown away by the wind. Next time , i really like this corner of the coast.

I hate when that happens! Great sky right up until the moment the light is good and then POOF nothing to shoot. It seems to happen all the time.

Ah, yes - Scott, this tend to happen :). One of many reasons to get down to the coast more and try again.

hi vlad, the sun doesn't bother me so much, to me the clouds in the sky have somewhat of an unnatural texture, especially compared with their look in the reflection. i am absolutely loving your comp, though, and the light overall is very pleasing.

This is a bit of a surreal quality to the light. It looks a little out of place, but also seems to work. In reading the other comments, I think it's the wide-angle foreground and telephoto sun that creates the dissonance, though it seems to work here and creates an interesting tension in a contrast we're not used to seeing.

Aside from the issues with the sun, this is wonderful. the warm light on the curve of sand in the fg is particularly nice.

Beautiful. Has a real 3-dimensional feel to it that I find truly remarkable. Almost as if one is walking into the image. Gorgeous image.

Really nice Vlad - lots of components here that I like - sand rocks, reflection clouds, distant hills/stacks.... great shot - really really like it.

The soft glow of the sun framed by the textured sky caught my eye first, then followed the misty rocks and down into the curving foreground. Might be a bit too much going on mid-ground, but the stones at right mid-ground help lead me into that reflecting pool and even compliment the triangular shapes of the distant sea stacks. I like this very much. :toast:

Nice complementary colors Vlad. I like the clouds and reflection as well. Beautiful light and I don't mind the large sun.

Personally the sun doesn't bother me, it's different from the usual sunstar effect that everyone goes for. The sky (especially the clouds) seem a bit to dark when compared to their reflection, however. An easy enough fix though. :toast:
