Many years I haven’t been in Les Pres d’Orvin/Switzerland anymore even though it’s just about 30 minutes from our home. When I was a kid it was our local ski area……..Mum and her boyfriend told me about those bizarre trees they saw up there and even took some pics with their cellphone. When I saw them I knew I have to go there. So one foggy Sunday we made a day trip to Les Pres d’Orvin scouting the area. While there was fog in the valley in the higher areas of the Jura were clear blue skies. This is one of those trees from this areas. The backlight made some interesting light and I loved the greens on the branches. Well, i hope this works. It’s a bit busy at the top though.

Thanks to Andreas Resch for the web sharpener script. This is just great.

Techs: Nikon D700, Nikkor AFS 70-200/f2.8G IF VR ED (@80mm), ISO 200, 1/5sec, f13, polarizer

Thanks for any comments and thoughts

Cool, Bill! I like it overall, but i did have an immediate reaction to this, which is that the top to me is way more interesting to me--i know you say 'busy', but to me it's a great abstract pattern. In comparison the bottom half is pretty tame looking. What do you think of a square crop of the top, too weird?

Here is Stan's suggestion of a square crop.

Hi Bill,

I like the square crop better. Maybe a little more contrast in the exterior branches?

I like the tree, but I don't think you photographed it in the best light. The dappled sunlight on the branches makes it hard to see all the detail clearly. I wonder if you took the same image in overcast light, if it would work better.

Very unusual looking tree. The bottom might not be quite as powerful to match what's found on the upper side, but it works. The way the moss catches light is fascinating.

I like this Bill. The light on the moss is great and overall I think it has a pleasing feel which I really enjoy. I also think the square crop works really well. I commented on this shortly after you posted it, but for some reason it didn't post here. Not sure what I did so glad I noticed it now.
