For a number of autumns since 1991 I have wandered around in the Okefenokee Swamp, most times in my canoe, but the last couple of trips, out of the economy of time, by way of the rental flatboats from Stephen Foster SP. This is an attempt to show a portion of the north fork of the Suwannee River, following a meandering course southward from open prairies then through dense cypress swamp toward the main course of this famous river. On this day the overcast conditions offered little in the way of "grand scenic" images, but at the same time the subtle shades of fall color made up for the drab atmospheric surroundings. From November 2008, handheld from the boat. Slight crop from bottom to exclude brighter reflections in the water.

Nice. At first I was thinking of cropping off some of the reflection, but I think it looks better with it all in.

Not sure what I like better: the graphic quality of the vertical trees or the abstract quality of the water ripples. I guess I like it all. Nice concept and execution.

I'm enjoying the look and feel of this, Bill. The rippled reflection looks great and I always like the mood these cypress trees seem to have. Very nice.

Bill,

I really like the interaction of the vertical lines in the reflection and the horizontal ripples. I like the reflection so much that I might consider cropping much of the cypress forest - at least the upper part where there are patches of gray sky that aren't adding much to the scene. But regardless, this works very well as presented.
