Embrace the Chaos

Shooting landscapes in the Everglades can be a challenge. Unless you're out in sawgrass or marsh prairie there's little room for composition. Where one tree or vine ends another begins, or two or three.
So when faced with pleasing sidelight along this canal, I mounted a 200-400mm lens and decided to embrace it all from a distance.

This is a two image blend, one shot for left side focus, one for the right.

You certainly captured some extraordinary detail in beautiful sidelight. The reflection is superb. Excellent image all around.

So much wonderful detail and subtle color. The large version show it the best.

Nice detail and light Wayne. I also like the abstract qualities.

The reflection definitely adds to the abstract quality here, Wayne, and the light looks good. Just wonder if B&W might be an option for this type of comp.

Wayne, I really like this, it is a little different and I enjoy looking at it. I think you did an excellent job capturing this in some great light! The large version is wonderful with a fantastic reflection and amazing detail. Very nice!

Wonderful chaotic image. I am thinking I would like to see the reflection a little darker to provide a bit more contrast to the top, but minor stuff. I like it!

Really interesting, Wayne. The lines and textures are great. The dark left side throws the image off balance a bit for me. The scene is so complex, that my eye is having trouble finding a focal point - the trunk in the middle to the right a bit is a good candidate, but the central placement of it is not optimal. I would prefer a vertical crop with the larger trunk off to the side to use as a focal point.

Doug, interesting you should mention a vertical crop. I played with that, but decided the darker left side and small expanse of grass next to it was needed for depth. I also felt that without that bit of contrast the tangled mess would erase any hope of a focal point whatever.

Wayne,

I really like the abstract "nature" of this one. The order from chaos rings true as well, most especially in the larger version. Nicely seen and captured.

The grounding line where the reflection meets combined with the overall chaos works well Wayne!
