A copse of Joshue Trees at the edge of twilight in the Nevada desert. You can learn more about the story behind the image in my blog entry Swing for the Fences.

Also, check out my latest article in this month's issue of NPN, Twelve Significant Photographs a Year.

Happy New Year everyone!

Hi Ian,
I really like this one, the trees have a special glow that intrigues me and I also like how the clouds crown the trees at the top, the photo has plenty of detail all around and I spent a good time looking at it.
Very nice!

I like the lighting but did you take any closer and lower so the row of cactus in the foreground would be out of the frame and the trees would rise higher above the horizon line?

Nice shot Ian and Happy New Year. I find the foreground a little busy, but the color palette and mood you've captured are exquisite as usual. Take care,

Pretty nice portrait of these Joshua Trees. I like the nice soft light on your subject and the stormy clouds in the background.

This is really cool! At first look, (for me), the foreground had an almost "reflection" look of the cacti..

the transition of light in this image is perfect. The main subject is beautifully lit and the supporting elements fade away in various degrees. I love the image and the thoughtful composition spurs me to work harder on my own. Thanks for sharing

This almost has a painted look. Love the glow and the long exposure allowing the clouds to move. The composition seems perfect, but wonder if you shot a little lower so that the mountains don't intersect with the far left branches. Great shot and happy new year, can't wait to see what crazy new images you make this year.

The blue/magenta color combo here is beautiful. The glowing quality of light is awesome and those joshua trees look fabulous. I like the cactus in the immediate fg of the image too. Lovely shot Ian.

Great anecdote, Ian. Nice to know the history behind an image, esp one that took so much to capture.
Love this, not only the techs, but that you found those leading lines into the image. Lots of paths here for the eye to explore.

Sort of in the subtle zone, yet a beautiful and effective image as always.

Mark, sometimes I think you say "subtle" as if it's a bad thing!
