I’m not fan of the B&W pictures but in this case I think it works because it can hide some branches out of focus that in the color version stand out a lot.
In my next post I’ll show you the color version, just to compare.
The picture was taken in Botswana last summer, we saw the whole family resting in the shadow of some bushes. The light was very hard and with a lot of shadows. It’s not the perfect situation but this was what we had. I had to clone some branches with PS.
To see this lions was a great experience for me, I didn’t know we could get so close without bother them.

Canon 1D Mk3
300mm + x2
f 5.6
1/200
ISO 100

Feedback and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Oscar.

This is really nice Oscar... I think the b&w conversion looks great here.

The b/w conversion makes for a good effect. A vertical of the face would have been nice, too, and might have avoided clipping the whiskers.

Hi Oscar, I remember this sighting well and how frustrating the lighting conditions were. Going for a B&W conversion makes good sense for that reason indeed. This works for me, although I would have preferred a bit more room both top & bottom (but especially bottom) to prevent clipping, but shooting with a fixed focal length lens was constraining you here
