Florida shore bird ID?
by Ben Vanos
Hi all, I took this picture on Sanibel island, FL last week. It was the one bird on the island I couldn't seem to identify - maybe because of winter plumage.
I was hoping someone could help me out with the ID, but also, feel free to critique the photo as well!

4 commentsyour bird is a Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) in winter plumage. It only lives to the first half of its name during summer time but certainly turns stones all year round! A nice shot with a low angle, soft light and nice 'frozen' motion with the leg up.
Cheers,
Étienne
As far as the shot goes, I also like the low able and leg lift. not sure if this was a crop, but I might move it off center if you have more room.
The blues are nice and compliment the brown bird very well.
Quite cenetered - if possible, as Kurt mentions, would be better moved to the left so not dead-center.
Lokking forward to more of your images - welcome - and I'm envious you're at Sanibel!
