Rough-legged Hawk

Just a plain blue sky but I liked the pose. This hawk had been kiting in a stiff wind and would occasionally raise its head like this to look over the raised road behind me. One of the few shots I got of this bird with uplifted wings. The double catch light is natural. Cropped fairly tight to minimize all the blue sky and for the detail on the bird.

7D, 1/1250, f/8, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 12/21/11, exposure adjustment in ACR, cropped to 65% of original image then added canvas top and right for composition, sharpened bird, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not baited, set up or called in

Larger version profided

Very good! that's a great expression. It looks like he saw you and did a double-take. "Oh oh it's that pesky papparazzi again taking more pictures of me to sell to News of the Bird World." :toast:

A fantastic pose creating clean lines on the neck and breast of the bird. I also like the tightly tucked feet and talons. Excellent detail and light.

Another sensational image Ron. Nice wing position, great pose, and beautiful light-looks as though he was interested in those chocolate covered donuts, perhaps.

Ron, If I did not know better, I would think the Hawk was doing a swan dive. I give this image a 10!

Interesting "I'm king of the world" pose (that's a "Titanic" quote if you missed the movie). Your usual excellent detail and image quality Ron. :toast:

Ron,
I see that you're dressing in that Mickey Mouse outfit again. Just kidding of course. That's one of the best head turns I've ever seen. Beautiful capture in every regard Ron. Amazing!! The larger version MUST BE SEEN!!

Nice job with the flight capture. The soft light and the exposure looks great. Seems a touch tight but I understand your reasons. Hope your holiday season is good.

Ron, one day, you will have to teach me how to get these hawks to look at you in flight...I don't think I still have any shots with them doing this. They must not like me as much  ! I only have seen one Rough-legged and only have a shot of him perched, so I really like seeing this.Another beauty sir. :toast:
