Maple Leaves

Last Fall I dried these maple leaves to use for some craft projects. I am still learning about "scanography" or scan art, so I thought these might make a good subject.

I laid the leaves face down on the glass bed of my scanner and scanned this into a .tiff file for processing. I used Nik Software's Viveza to bring out detail and colors and then finished the processing in Topaz Lab's Simplify plug-in using the Buzsim preset. I think this concept of using a scanner is very interesting, but it's a challenge to arrange the objects on the glass since you cannot see underneath the glass. I just keep working at it until I'm happy with the composition.

Comments, thoughts ... all are very much appreciated.

Barbara, sure wish I could help you with the scanning process. Get in touch with the Flora guys who are more experienced with this technique. From what I've seen, you shouldn't have to use MIK software to bring out the details. but then you may be going for more of a graphical approach.

The details in the leaves and the layering are great. My brain keeps wanting to rotate it to a vertical with the rhs as the base.

Thanks everyone for taking a look. I'm intrigued by this process of scanning objects directly on top of the glass bed and will continue to work with this process. I have talked to a few other photographers to learn their process and it's been very helpful. I use Nik to process the image as the scanner still has limitations, but I have found that others use post processing techniques as well. Mark, the image does look great rotated, so at least that's another option. I hope to post more as I continue this journey. Happy New Year to all.
