Curious to see how this resonates with folks. I've been sort of into a black and white thing of late. Strong backlight illuminating a lone sugar maple at the forest edge. Thanks for your feedback.

This is very interesting, Kurt. I think it would look a little better as a portrait, without quite so much space on the right. I'm not very knowledgeable of what makes b&W good, but I do like the glow.

I really like the idea. Maybe a bit too dark or too much of it for me. Agree, maybe a portrait version would be stronger.

I totally agree with a portrait on this...then that tree would pop!

I like this a lot Kurt. Add me to the portrait camp. Crop a little from the left, but keep those lighter trees on the right. Well seen!

I love the separation and spooky mood this one has got. Nice details too. Overall very well done, Kurt.

I like the way you have framed this, mostly because it's the background darker trees that add interest to the subject.

This certainly works for me and I think you struck the right luminosity balance between the main subject and the darker trees in the background. I like having a hint of what is in the shadows, and this does the trick.

Kind of like the others Kurt. The tree looks good but you need a little more light in the BG to give it context.

Kurt,

Resonates beautifully with me. I can see the thoughts about a portrait presentation, but for me, I think what this needs is more space. A bit more room all the way around might enhance the feeling of isolation. But even still, as presented I very much like that there is just a hint of detail surrounding the tree for some context and sense of place. I think this is excellent as presented.

I love the mystery in this woodland scene, Kurt. The spotlight on the one tree and the hint of details in the BG trees work beautifully together.

The image and the negative space work nicely for me. The hint of what is going on in the background is great. I like it.
