Another image from our amazing sighting in Savute earlier this year. This young Leopardess gave us a really good show for around 45 minutes before Mum called her. 3rd January 2011

EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F4 hand-held

Nice playful pose and great tree. Seems a little flat, so some added work selectively on the cat would help - increased contrast and sat to make her "pop" from the tree.
Nice catch!

Hi Ken,

Not really sure what this cat is up to (beyond playing), but when I see this sort of shot it makes me think in terms of "big housecat" (not intended negatively - more of a reference to it being cute and playful).

Tough shooting situation here - that sky is pretty lifeless (through no fault of your's, of course) and the lighting is pretty flat. I do like the diagonal flow of the image and it DID make me smile. I tend to agree with Sandy that a few selective tweaks could bring this image up a notch or two in visual appeal (tho' it's definitely the kind of image you wouldn't want to overdo).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I love the dynamic flowing lines of tree and cat. Yes, you were limited by lighting, yet somehow I feel there is a slight color balance/white balance issue holding this back. Perhaps you could try a white point on the whitest part of the fur on this young leopard for a tweak.

The pose here is great, and well worth capturing. I think it could benefit from a little more contrast, and there seems to be a yellow cast on the leopard and tree - at least on my monitor. It must have been great fun watching her.
