One of my favorite places to photograph recently, mainly due to the absolute goldmine of ultra wide angle compositions. I am looking forward to the next time I get the opportunity to spend some more time exploring this amazing location.

This was taken about an hour before sunrise with the moon lighting the scene and clouds. Canon 5d2, 16-35, 5 image hand blend, 4 for focus blending and a 5th for the sky

I didnt know you had been making trip to Mars, Koveh, your gas bills must be enormous
Anyhow, an interesting shot! The radials work really well here--any idea why the clouds are so streaked--almost looks like a super long exposure but the stars say otherwise? I like the comp a lot, my only suggestion would be to burn down the fg highlights slightly--i know they were moonlit but i think it would look more natural not quite so bright.

Thanks for the feedback Stan. The clouds and stars are both from the same image. The clouds seem extremely streaked because of how fast they were moving across the sky. I will look at toning down the foreground highlights a tad, but I was actually thinking of bringing up the highlights int he background instead of toning down the foreground, but that is just personal preference.

Definitely an out if this world image. I love how the clouds reflect the lines in the foreground. Nothing I can add or suggest, looks pretty dang good as is.

Koveh,

This is just fantastic! It's rare that a photographer can capture and combine the sky and foreground so cohesively. The way the sky and land echo each other is amazing. The landscape, from Mars as someone already mentioned. Executed masterfully - this is a superb capture.

Certainly one of the most creative and effective images I can recall seeing from this location. I'd say your efforts were well-rewarded here. Excellent work.

Very creative - a sci-fy look to this that I really like. I'm wondering why the base of the clouds looks a little darker that the clouds above it. Not sure if it is a result of the blend, or it's just the cloud. I guess I might expect the cloud brightness to be more even, especially with the longer exposure needed to the sky.stars. A standing cloud, or lenticular cloud might give this effect over a longer exposure. If you could shed some light on this  that would be great.

Harry, good eye. That is actually due to a little too heavy handed dodging and burning. I just looked at the RAW file before I hit the dodge/burn and the cloud, although lighter on the horizon than above, goes all the way down, so it is not the blend. Looks like some heavy contrast in that area caused that to darken. Easy enough to fix..thanks.

You absolutely nailed this one Koveh! I think the centered comp works well here, especially since the clouds seem to radiate toward the corners from the center. The detail is nice and crisp throughout and although very well lit for a night shot, I wouldn't change a thing as it adds to the surreal nature of this shot. While there are absolutely no nits with this B&W version, I too am curious what a color version looks like? In any case, this is out of the park good, you're killin me buddy :toast: :toast:
