Spray Lake, Kananaskis

Here is a shot from the other morning out at Spray Lakes in Kananaskis Country. While the colour version does look decent, I was able to bring the snow out better in the bw version with a bit of dodging and burning. Any comments are appreciated. Sorry this one is little smaller than usual, it's just easier to use the same one posted on my blog!

Well composed. The texture and lines of the snow are a good lead in. This one looks made for black and white.

Wayne,

I really like this. Great job bringing out the texture and patterns in the snow field with the conversion. I like the wide angle and lower perspective here which is making for a strong composition. For me, to keep the interest in the landscape you might need to crop out the dark top portion of the sky. It's not adding anything and pulls the eye up and away from the rest of the beauty of the snow patterns, clouds and lovely light on the mountain. Otherwise, great work with capturing and presenting this.

wayne, i love this image. the textures in the foreground are really compelling. i wish i could see a larger version so i can gaze out into the distance, though. the detail seems to be outstanding. great job!

I really like this a lot. Black & white works really well here. I love the textures and lines in the snow. Great comp, too but it would also work well with the lon's crop suggestions....I thin it would even be an improvment. but otherwise great as is.

I really like the perspective. Great detail in the snow. I would also agree with Lon's crop suggestion, but pretty minor. Well done.

Great tonal range, wonderful contrast and the texture and sculpted waves of the snow is terrific. Very, very nice

The perspective really enhances the windswept scallops and lines in the snow. Nice work on the foreground. I would agree with Lon about the sky crop.

Was going to write to maybe crop some of the dark sky, but see that Lon beat me to this. Other than that, I think the B&W version looks great.

I really love great B&W's. Too bad I can't figure out the processing myself. Anyway, this shot has some nice drama and a great fg. :toast:
