Took this shot a couple of weeks ago walking through a field in Criders Virginia. Most plant life had died away by now so I was looking for anything to catch my eye which this did. I am not sure what plant this is?

Canon 7D, 70-200L IS II @ 155mm, iso 100, 1/320sec, ap, F11, cropped for comp, Handheld.

C&C welcome.

Interesting plant capture, Dave. We have these type of spiky weeds in our area too but they are usually darker. Don't know what they are though. This one is very pale which I find interesting. Nice comp and good DOF choice. I do think the whole picture could stand some darkening (especially since the plant color will allow this) to help bring out details and make the plant stand out more. Just a thought. Good eye to find this!

Hmm - I think Carolyn is right about reducing the brightness a bit. It would add a little subtle drama to the image. This is a neat... well... thing. Whatever it is, it's beautiful!

The fruit of Datura stramonium.

Not a critique, but a suggestion. If you want to play, I suspect this will handle a black-and-white treatment very well, with its strong lines and shapes.
