Big Eyes

These young owls gave me a few seconds to snap a couple of shots of them, I didn't realize how large their eyes were until I later reviewed them. Their camouflage is perfect, except for their eyes!

Comments and critique welcome.

Cool find, Tammy. Are they great horned owlets? Interesting seeing them on the ground... they look like they're at that age where flying still requires a bit of practice.

I don't know if there's room in the original frame to do this, but I'd be interested in seeing how it would look with the owls more centered horizontally. Seems weighted to the right side a bit, though with the sharper foreground bird staggered off-center it still works okay.

Max

PS - you should be able to edit the post and move it to the Avian gallery.

Hi Tammy,

I took the liberty of moving this over to the Avian gallery.

Cheers...

Nice catch! I agree that more room on the right, and less on the left, would balance the image better.
You don't mention your DOF, but a greater or lesser one might have worked well - either to have both owls very sharp, or the rear one less sharp.
Great little birds!

So cool! The composition works for me. I too would like more DOF, to get the 2nd bird more in focus.

What a fun picture. Love those big eyes. My first impression was how well they blend in with their environment except for those eyes! Very nice find and love the picture.
