I found this scene a few days ago in Lower Austria. The plainness together with the complexity was intriguing for me.

Good eye on this one, Peter--i really like it! I think it's missing something processing-wise but i can't put my finger on it--maybe a little more midtone contrast to bring out some of the 'complexity'. Or how a bout a B&W to emphasize the 'plainness'? One or the other...

Peter, I really like the subject. Really good eye on that one. but i also agree with Stan that there's something missing processing wise.

A very understated image, Peter. I can see what drew you to this image; the simplicity of the elements works beautifully with the complexities of the grass patterns.

Peter, I agree this is simple and complex all at the same time. An interesting image that I enjoy.

These shots can look like snapshots, but this one here not. I agree, there is a lot of complexity due to the texture and details created by the grasses, but overall the composition is very direct and simple. And that makes it a strong photograph in my opinion.

Peter,
I like this and think you did a great job in isolating this one tree, it's starker white color against such complex, yet very simple background.
Amazing though that what I was think was exactly what Stan was thinking before I read his comments. That's in terms of processing. Now I don't think there is anything wrong with anything, color, exposure, etc. etc. But like Stan mentions, I needs an additional something. Maybe it's saturation to bring up the gold/bronze colors of the background, there's even hints of red that could be tapped. Or maybe it's a soft vignette. Guess the point is that you've got an excellent scene and with some playing around could make this an even stronger one.

I have to echo the previous comments. The comp works well to control the chaos, but my first thought on the processing was that its too flat. A tweak or two in contrasts would bring this up notch.
