Mt Hood from Lolo

While driving from Portland to the Columbia Gorge, I spotted Mt Hood and took a detour to Zigzag and up Lolo pass to capture this view of the West side of the mountain.

Now that's a cool lenticular Daniel! Almost looks like a wizard's hat! Great B&W conversion as well!

Very cool! I can't imagine actually standing there observing this in person (although the large preview definitely comes close). Great B & W...

That must have been amazing to see Daniel, a stunning sight...makes me wonder what the colour version would have been like, although the mono works very well!

Sick clouds. But why iso50??? Less dynamic range and more noise than 100. And you didnt need the longer exposure. Good detour to take...might be worth it everytime :)

Those are some serious lenticulars! I like the BW treatment, and the overall presentation. Nice!

The B&W was the perfect choice. The clouds and lighting are striking, really accentuate the clouds. There seems to be a bit more dark sky around the clouds, wondering if that was natural or as a result of post-processing conversion? It does make them stnd out even more. :toast:

1. After posting this I can see a stitch line right in the middle of the clouds, which I didn't see when staring at the image til I was crosseyed in development. Can be fixed.

2. Aaron: I shot this at iso 50 (L setting on the 5DMk2), believing that the lowest provided the best quality. Is dynamic range really better at 100?. It was bright enough that the exposure time was irrelevant.

B&W really does this justice. I think I can see the stitch line, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Wonderful Daniel! Aside from the obvious cloud action, I like that you've included the entire sprawling base of the mountain; the semi-pano format works quite well here. No nits from me. the larger view really shines.

The B&W really makes this image pop. Like the composition too as everything leads to the cap on the mount.

Killer clouds! While the b&w conversion is nice it leaves me wondering how this looked in color...

I did notice four distinct stitch lines in the larger version, easy enough to fix before print... :toast:

Wow, amazing lenticulars! I've always wanted to see one "china-capped" over a mountain summit like this. Were you by chance lucky enough to have some golden hour light to make the clouds glow with color? I'd kill to see that.
