Pebble Explosion

Findhorn Beach, Moray, Scotland

A pebble explosion with some bird foot prints. Hopefully the bird escaped before the explosion occured :-).

When I was traveling back from Inverness to Glasgow by train to catch my flight back to the US the next day, two older gentleman (not to far from my age) who sat across from me notice I was working on some of my images and spotted this one and said they liked it. After speaking to them, I found out they recently cycled on Lewis and Harris (about the same time we were there) and were in Inverpolly cycling on the same day I was there with Ian on a 1-2-1 with some horrific weather. I can not imagine how they battled that wind and side ways rain on bicycles since I could hardly stand straight. Oh yes they said, the wind and rain were brutal and one of them actually gave up and got a ride back to Ullapool to wait for his friend. The man who seemed to be the older, was the one who completed his trip by peddle. He also shared some pics he had taken with a 3 mpixel camera someone had given along the way on another venture. The images he showed me where actually quite beautiful and ethereal. I like these encounters and hearing these kind of stories of travel and just thought I would share it. Reminds me in many ways of my solo travels to Alaska talking to people on the state ferry many years ago ..... I miss that. Anyway, thought I would post this image as well since I like the abstract qualities myself. I especially like the vein like lines in the sand "caused by the explosion" and the shock waves of light in the foreground. Taken close to sunset.

Thanks for having a look and if you wish to leave a comment, all the
better.

I really like this, Eva. I wouldn't have guessed at the small scale without the bird tracks. Anyway, again, beautiful!

The composition is very unconventional, but it works beautifully. Great colors, patterns and detail. I really like this one! Excellent.

Must be viewed large to be fully appreciated.

Love the burst pattern to your abstract, Eva. The bird tracks add a wonderful element and contrast to the textures and details in the sand and pebbles. Outstanding. Great story about the train.

I love this, Eva! The diagonal composition was a good idea because it allows it to fan out and amplifies the sense of radiating from a point. The patterns and textures are amazing in the large version and I think the tracks are a nice little bonus. Great shot! :toast:

Hi Eva!

This reminded me of the Mars photos from the Rovers, really a striking composition!
I like it a lot, it really looks like a space shot.

Wonderful lighting conditions, Eva, that show your composition at its best for me. I admire the delightful color palette and your processing is spot on in my opinion.

The texture and color here is very interesting. I would recommend a bit of a crop off the top to help get rid of the sand ripples up there. They are sitting right on the edge, and my eye keeps getting sucked up there. Also, this would create a more diagonal emphasis from the lines that enter from the upper left corner.

Eva, This is a wonderful image! Beautiful light and color with a very impressive composition. Looks like this was shot from much farther away than it was, like up on a cliff or something. I love the textured feel you have here too. Excellent work!

Like this abstract a lot Eva and your story from the train was nice to read. Sand and pebbles works great in pictures of this kind. :toast:
