Storm Light, Scotland

On the way to the Callanish Stones, we stopped in Achmore on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland to catch some Storm Light and fool around with light meters, ND gradients, and big stopper ND's on a Transient Light Workshop.

I did use the "sheep-be-gone" tool here in PS CS5 to remove one teeny, tiny sheep mooning us that was in the center lower foreground. If the sheep was giving us a sideways view, I would have left it and posted in M&N which needs some visits.

Thanks for having a look. Much appreciated if you leave a comment or critique but more appreciative if ya have a look at other's work in M&N. A lot of good stuff there that goes unnoticed. Thanks for having a look over there too.

Canon 5DM2
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L at 55mm
ISO50 1/15sec f/16
3 Stop Gradient

Very dramatic light, Eva, and nice balance with the two lochs. How can there be no trees here in a land that looks like it gets plenty of rain

Thanks Tony. My husband Joe and I have discussed that for hours. May be because of the sheep or harsh weather. Here in the US in New Hampshire, in the White Mountains, the tree line is quite low, ~4000ft, due to very harsh weather (worst weather in the world as they say and no sheep that I have seen, or some other environmental factor). A lot of trees at lower elevations however in NH which lead to our multi-day blackout after our October snow storm. Not sure about the lack of trees in the UK.

Love the feeling of gazing into distances here. Dramatic clouds. This is very nice

Beautiful wide open scenery. The distant hills look so small compared to the storm clouds and that helps get a sense of scale.

Your work from Scotland is really lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Love the ominous, dramatic clouds with the plain awash with light, leading back to the mountains. Wouldn't change a thing. Your 'sheep be gone' tool worked quite effectively.

Love the dramatic sky and the way the two lochs are composed in the scene.

Nice, Eva--great depth! Ordinarily id defend thirds to the death, but here i kind of like 50/50. Hopefully i can get a few moments to check out M&N--it's the old story of 'too many pics, too little time'

Great drama in the sky for me, Eva, and wonderfully compemented by the tranquility in the landscape.

I just think of cropping the upper part with the blue spots in the sky, but that might be purely a matter of opinion. An impressive image for me as it is.

Beautiful big view Eva, love all the layers and light in the distant mountains. Have you also considered a pano crop? Scrolling down so the top half of the sky is out of view reveals a completely different shot. I'm still using PS7, may have to consider an upgrade to get one of those "sheep-be-gone" tools considering the amount of sheep in North Wales .

Cheers, Gary.

Wonderful cloudscape Eva, storm clouds are one of natures best shows IMO and nice to see this with wide open country, way to go.
