Invasive Crayfish

This was more of a quick documentary shot taken during a camping trip near Young, AZ. A Forest Service officer informed us that we could take as many crayfish out of nearby Haigler Creek as possible; apparently they are an invasive species which do a lot of damage in Arizona waterways. My family ended up with 2 large buckets filled with these guys which we happily cooked and ate!

Atsa lotta crawdads!

Is this shot in your bucket or "in the wild?" In either case it very nicely makes the point. I'm jealous of the eating, but sorry to hear they're such a problem. Wish I was closer, large buckets in hand, to help relieve the situation!

Hank, these were in the bucket. I'm sure no one would have a problem if you came down here and filled up your own buckets! It was amazing how many we kept pulling out of the water (bacon works great, btw), we could have fished for them all year and not emptied out that creek!

Tonia, an interesting story. I do wish your photo was sharper. Or you could have cropped it to have the crawdad (Kansas name) which is relatively sharp more towards the center. TFS
