Giant Mesquite Bug Nymph

Nikon D70 w/ Sigma 28-200mm lens
ISO 200, F 9.5, 1/500 sec.

I have found these insects at the begining of our monsoon season here in Arizona. They are typically found on Mesquite Trees and there are often multilple insects on one branch. Their colors are remarkably bright and I suspect they may be undesirable as food items.

Splendid colours on this Bug Nymph Tonia, the shape kind of reminds of Assassin Bugs, which I've seen over here in Thailand as well as over in Borneo, they too have the most spectacular colours. Thanks for sharing!

The colors on this bug are so vibrant, really nice composition and background too.

Nicely captured, Tonia. If this were mine I would clone out the OOF leaves on the lower left.
These give off an acrid compound when harassed, and I can't imagine that being tasty to anything. :wavey:

He really stands out against the subtle background colors. I might crop just a bit from the left to remove that little smudge of green in the lower left corner. Great details on this beautiful bug!

Thankyou everyone for your suggestions! Sam, I had no idea about the smell/taste that they give off, thanks for the further information!

What an interesting and colorful bug, I will have to keep a watch out for these. I might have gone with a vertical crop since the bug is facing down but hard to tell sometimes on how to best crop. I like the red, green, blue color scheme, nice job in getting this.

Wonderful colors in this shot. Great focus on the bug and nice background. I agree with cloning out the piece of leaf on the left side.
