This is one of three images I posted in Flora during the week devoted especially to wildflowers (May 2010).
Photo taken April 4, 2010 in the Carrizo Plain National Monument, CA. The sea of fiddleneck wildflowers seemed almost endless. The photographic story is intended to be the abundance of the wildflowers.
D300, 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6, tripod
ISO 200, 1/80 sec at f/22, 18mm
Comments and suggestions most welcome.

David,

I know this scene, I had traveled out there around the same time it was a spectacular scene and this image does it justice. It was a huge area crisscrossed with dirt road a leading to different areas of flowers. spring 2010 was a special season

The friend who invited me out to photograph the California Wildflowers said it was in the top 3 of the 20 years he had been observing the wildflowers. It was certainly special for me.

Great photo.
Greys and gold is a good color combo.
I like the comp with the mountain tops breaking the horizontals of clouds and base of mountains.
Nice work--good eye.
