First year Northern Cardinal in transitional plumage.
F/7.1, 1/1000th, ISO 500, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x @ 8:39am & clear.
I do not use flash on my perched bird images, preferring the natural look of light & shadows..

Beautiful light and colors Howard, very well composed. Love the pose and the perch.

Very nice comp on this one. A kiss of fill flash would help open the blacks.

Very interesting to see the plumage transition. Good timing to get the head turn into the light and a wonderful overall composition, excellent shot Howard, well done.

Nice detail. I agree about a small amount of fill.

This is nice as posted Howard. Love the comp and head turn. Nice BG. Fill flash would have help, but still a nice image.

Excellent color, detail & composition, Howard. Another wall hanger. I would try cropping a little from the bottom.

Nice image of this cardinal bursting into color. Feathers yes, but you have caught the beak at a nice stage, too. I wish the shadowed area had a bit more light.
