Snowy Treetop

Shot this several years ago at Big Bend National Park, but just got around to processing it. Don't know why it took me so long because I've always kind of liked it. Just lazy I guess. Shot on a very foggy day, hence the BG being grayed out.

LARGER version available for better detail.

D2x w/ 70-300 @ 105mm
1/125 @ f/11 - MLU & mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
No filters
tripod
Capture One 6, CS4, TK's actions

Your thoughts, as always, are greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I like the off-centered composition and the light, especially the slight light gradient from URC to LLC. I almost wish there were something else in the frame to maybe give an additional focal point.

A lovely photograph. Simple and very graphic. The foggy atmosphere matches the snow laden branches.

I am glad you processed it.

I really appreciate the crisp details here! I also like the separation in tone between the snow on the branches, and the foggy background. The snow covered branches stand out from the background nicely. Beautiful graphic shot.

I tell ya what makes this image for me Bill is the luminosity of the foggy bg. There's just a lovely silvery glow eminating from behind the tree that really makes this work. I would say though, that without that light, the composition is a little static for me. But the snow-laden branches and bg light really make this one stand out.

Love the pattern of these branches against the sky, Bill, and how you were able to retain textures in the snow and detail in the tree bark. The graphic design though really is superb.

How did I miss this up til now? I like the comp and I think you utilized the lines in the tree really well. The fact that this is in Big Bend makes it a rare image. Nicely done.

I like it too, Bill--especially the larger version. What I really like is the evenness and luminosity of the background color and the details of the snow-laden branches on the tree. Makes me wonder what the area will look like this winter considering the severe drought of the area ...

Carol
