Flowing Spirits + REPOST

Bald Rock Creek, Girraween National Park, Queensland.

I loved this rock formation I discovered along the creek. I made many comps at different times of day and from different angles, but this one, shot before dawn, seemed to capture the spirit of the place that I was after.

D80, Sigma 10-20mm @10mm, f/11, 2 shot blend (80sec & 55sec)

Thank you for your c&c.

I really like the radial streaks of light David and spots of light on the rocks. Nice find and comp.

And I think you succeeded, David. The big rocks in the back are really impressive and they add to the surreal mood. For some reason, I find the trees (those on the right at least) a bit distracting from the simplicity point of view of the scene. Still, very good work.

What i like most here is the light and color. The rocks in the background are very impressive and add a lot to this scene. Beautiful mood, too.

The lighting in this picture is amazing. It draws me in and holds me to this photo. I love it, nice work!

Very cool sky and interesting mood to this image! I like how the longer exposure of the water compliments the cloud streaks.

The tree-line seems a bit to dark. Also, the colour of the water seems a bit contrasting to the sky colour, maybe adding a touch of "cool/blue" filter would help balance the image. I would also consider the option of cropping out the foreground rock, because to me it does not add much to this neat capture IMO

Well done :toast:

I really like the mood and comp. I think a pano crop would emphasize the lines even more. Well done.

David, even more than the rock formation, I really like the triangular shapes--the water coming up and the sky coming down.

I would consider cropping the very bottom of the image. IMO, the rocks at the very bottom of the image are distracting.

Regards,

Carol

PS Really nice job on the report, David.

Really cool shot David! :toast: Really wide feel! Nice movement of water and light.

I do wonder if it could be improved by the rock on the bottom being warped out?

The streaks in the sky match nicely with the flow of the water. As far as the rock on the bottom, I think the bottom of the frame would be a little empty without it, but I can also see more of a pano crop working, too. Very nice image.

I like how you chose to compose this, David, and the light sure compliments the scene. The scene doesn't necessarily "wow" me, but it holds my interest quite well. Can't help wondering about those textures on the rock wall on the left edge of the frame.

Hi David,

I'd crop that rock right off in the foreground. Otherwise, I like the metallic colors of the rocks and how the cloud streaks mimic the water patterns. A very dynamic scene - well captured!

Thanks everyone for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I was in two minds about the fg rock and was going to post a alternative cropped version, but thought I would see people's reactions first. I think the general consensus is that the rock must go! Here's a cropped version without the fg rock

The combination of the light in the sky and the light gradient on the flowing brook succeed in pulling you into this image...very nice

A beautiful wide compostion. Really puts the viewer into the scene. I don't have a problem with that rock and actually liked its inclusion in the frame. However, the cropped version is nice too.

David,

Interesting and unusual light. I am not so sure about the composition. Its nice but its not holding me. The sky treatment is wonderful.

Really enjoying the repost David, was going to suggest cropping the fg rock out. The cloud action is nice.

David, This is beautiful! Love the colors and the awesome feel! I especially like the repost with the water flowing out of the frame without interruption. Very nice!
