Thanks for your comments on Venus. I am staying with the heavenly body theme, at least in name. I'll tribute this Cosmos image to Carl Sagan. The BG is from a bed of zennias. Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown. D700, 180 macro, f4.5, iso 200, 1/1250, tripod.

And here's a cropped version for comparison. Comments on which, if either, works are appreciated.

Scott, Both have merits but I prefer the first one - the OOF bud in the front there is not quite that bothersome as it is in the 2nd more magnified version. I like the pin sharp focus, the spectacular background and the colors. Cannot speak for everyone but I like the OOF leaves in the lower left corner very much. They lend some kind of artistic feel to the frame.

Scott:
This is real sweet. I like the bg a lot and the Cosmos is just stellar. :jump: Oh I like the first version more.

I like the flower Scott but I love the bg. Gorgeous color and a fine composition.

I prefer the first because in this case I like that bg and it also tends to de-emphasize the subordinate bud. Beautiful image.

I love the look to the BG and I love the look of the bloom. I sort of wish that the other bud was not there.

Very elegant. Here's another vote for the first version. The second feels cramped to me.

I like the elegant long line in the first one, but the second works very well, too. The background wash of Zinnias in the background is great. :toast:

Beauty Scott. Outstanding colors and clarity and a spectacular bg that doesn't distract from the subject........a rarity. I prefer the uncropped version. Nice.

Both comps works for me Scott, but if I had to pick it would be the tall frame - more "elegant" IMO.
Sweet shot :toast:
