Bear Lake Sunrise

On a recent trip to RMNP I was up and set up at Bear Lake every morning for a week. Finally on the last day I got the "alpine glow" look on Hallett peak that I have been after. Comments and suggestions as always are very welcome.

Nikon D7000, 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G lens at 12mm, f/16, 2 sec., ISO 400, w/tripod.

Too bad about the featureles sky, but everything else makes up for that Walt. Nice detail throughout. If you could darken the sky a bit and add some contrast to Hallett Peak, that would improve this I think.

Hi Walt,

The shot looks great. It certainly has a stunning reflection. I agree with darkening the sky a bit and also opening up the shadows on the reflections. I think that would help out a lot. Sweet work!!

A great Colorado scene to experience and good alpenglow for sure! The foreground rocks are a nice addition. It looks like you have a tiny dust spot on the top edge of the frame above Hallet Peak to clone or crop. +1 on the darkening the sky recommendation too.

I don't think you need anything in the sky. Just darken it some to make the glow on the peak stand out more. I might also try and balance the light on the trees and thier reflection. Nice shot with some minor tweaks will be even better.

Very nice capture Walt. I like the comp a lot, and love the FG boulders. In comparison, either the FG rocks are too dark, or the sky too light (for my tastes, I would brighten the FG rocks).

Very nice photo of Bear Lake. I go along with darkening the sky just a bit, or even cropping some of the sky out. Really like the reflection and the FG rocks. Also surprised you were able to get the shot without a lot of people around! Thanks for sharing.

Walt,

I really like your composition here and also the light on the mountain is warm and lovely. A nice choice in comp/sky given no cloud action. The only nit/suggestion I have is to try and balance out the light between the reflected and none-reflected trees. It seems that almost always people make the reflected part brighter than the real part (over use of grads,) but here it's the opposite. The reflection of the trees is much darker than I would expect. I don't know if you have multiple exposures to blend or if you can double process, whatever, but I would try and extract some detail in the water. If you can do that it would improve this greatly.
