Emmental

It was more or less a dissapointing morning for shooting. I got up early to drive to Luederenalp,Emmental/Switzerland.I scouted the area a couple of days before and I thought it has some potential for some composition. I also thought this would be a great are to go back in the fall. but since we had sort of fall-like-weather in july here in switzerland, I hoped for some fog in the lower areas that morning.
Indeed, there was some fog in the valley below but the light wasn't really interesting. But still I made one or two composition. This one I took on my way home on that morning as suddenly the sun broke through the clouds. As fast as I could I drove up a hill so I could overlook the area (Emmental). I loved those different layers of wooded hills and the fog laying over the valley.

Nice shot, Bill. I think you've done an excellent job with the fog. Have you considered carefully cloning that fog at the very top of the image? I think it would add a great deal to your photograph. The very top dark layer is a bit distracting as it stands at the moment.

Regards,

Carol

Love the mood and the layering here Bill. Compositionwise I wish to see either a little more on top or crop app 1/4 from the top as it is the top part that sort of is not matching with the rest of the image IMO. I like the subtle B&W tones, yet I have a suspicion that color would work very well for this scene too.

That's a really nice natural phenomenon to capture, Bill. The tree silhouettes and fog textures create a very interesting contrast.

Works great for me Bill. I like the view from a atop down on the valley. Emmental - so it is not just cheese from the supermarket...

Excellent Bill. Now the layering is obvious and of course quite beautifully captured here. But what strikes me is how the monochromatic presentation really works to separate the layers and provide depth. Depth is most times just assumed because of the captured layers, but I'm amazed at how the simple tones, along with the graphic nature of the silhouettes and fog, can portray nice depth. Excellent.
