Marsh Grass Abstract

The past few days I've been playing with square format B&W abstracts, or in this case, semi-abstract, and I've been having a blast! What attracted me to this scene was the tiny squiggles in the reflection and also the brilliant color of the grass in the early morning light (of course, you can't see the great color here). Anyway, I converted this using Silver Efex Pro emulating Agfa APX Pro 100 film. Hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Large version available (fairly compressed)

D2x w/ 70-200 VR @ 130mm
1/25 @ f/11 - MLU and mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
No filters (that I recall)
Tripod
Capture One 6, CS4, Silver Efex Pro, TK's actions

Your thoughts and critiques are greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Boy! the thumbnail sure doesn't do this justice Bill. After clicking I really had a wonderful surprise! Really though, I should have knew better coming from you. I think this is fantastic. I love the comp!! The reflections along the edge of the sand are wonderful with the bit of water movement. I also love the textures in the sand and the grasses are great. Looks just like it could be along the Wisconsin River. Fantastic work Bill.

This is a shot that needs to be seen large. I love the variety of textures, especially the reflections which drew you to the scene. Great comp as well.

Wow, what and image, Bill. Very different for you, but still with your expert eye and processing.

I really like the different textures in the water, sand & grass. Great comp as well. It's a nice little scene not many would have even noticed.

Bill this is a wonderful image and comp. I like your choice of square comp and the conversion is excellent. :toast:

That's a beautiful high key image Bill. Love those ripple reflections in the water, they really make the image for me!

Your comp really makes great use of the lines and textures. Your choice of film emulation works just as well, too. I like it a lot!

Nice 'slice of nature'. Great texture in grass, water, and sand. I like the b&w conversion but think a color image would work well also.

Hi Bill,

I too love the little "squigglies" in the water. In fact I might go so far as to crop from the top past to about the apex in the shore's curve. But then you're experimenting with the square crops and that would toss that out the window. But I can live with the square - this is well seen and crafted.

Looks great, Bill! I really like simple scenes like this one, that are somewhere between an intimate and an abstract. Your image is actually both and it's something I try to do myself.
