What a neat scene, almost like cypress knees. I might crop just a wee bit off the left side.

The photo does capture a feeling that something sinister is going on.

Mangroves, I would have never guessed. These are some of the most interesting trees. I could see where you could abstract this image to keep them guessing. Nice job Karsten.

Totally weird....like ants are going to start swarming out of them...slightly unsettling, and yet...awesome!

A compelling image. Those things are alive? Even more interesting.

How interesting and captivating. The light and reflection add depth to this eerie photo.

What a fantastically intriguing landscape (or seascape). Marvelous framing of these young mangrove plants. I would love to see this with a cool wb processing but that was my first reaction. Its yours and really cool.
Thanks for sharing Karsten

I'll go with your second description. I like the different greens and blues in the water. Great detail and lighting on the mangroves.

Awesome abstract here! The cohesion of all the different shapes and surface reflections is very compelling. A strong example of photography as art.

That is totally interesting, Karsten. So this is how they start Very abstract, but the pattern is really organic.

Intriguing! An image with a lot of mistery; I like that. This would look cool in a B&W conversion too I am sure.

Karsten,
I'm with Vincent - I was thinking b&w too. But heck, this has just as much impact as presented. Wild! Great job filling the frame with these little "creatures." I like how they seem to diminish in size as you fade towards the background giving the distinct impression that there is indeed an arm or an infinite number beyond what is captured here.

thanks for your comments everyone.
I now understand that what slightly bothered me about the original version is the lack of uniformity of the water's surface colour. this could be partially adressed through a cooler WB, but best through a B/W conversion which I post below.
thanks Vincent, Lon and Anthony for your input.
do you prefer B/W or colour?

Defintiely color--it brings the subject more to life.
This is AWESOME! One of the better posts ive seen here recently. I really thought it was an army of chess pieces rising from floodwaters or something--too cool!
