Not sure of the id. I think it's a Hawk Moth. My sister-in-law says it's a Hummingbird Moth. If anyone can clear up the confusion, thank you. comments welcome. Thanks for looking

Yep, its a hawk moth. Probably Manduca sp., but I'm not certain of that. I like the comp, Nancy.

Nancy:
Beautiful markings and color on this moth. Comp is good to with the flower on the left. You have a reasonably clear bg here and I would perhaps have open the aperture some more to get faster SS in this situation to freeze the motion.

Like the comp and agree with Gary on SS, but it still looks very artistic and great to look at. :wavey:

It's a White Lined Sphinx moth Nancy.
Well composed frame and good details for shooting a flyin' critter @ 1/320th without flash?
Shooting into a lighter BG might've helped you get that S-speed up for more detail.
Still a very pleasing shot, like how caught the wings forward here :wavey:

Even if not perfectly sharp, still a pleasing shot of a rare (for me) subject. I've only shot one in my life.

Nancy

A very difficult subject you've selected. Been trying to get it right myself with these too. You have done well.
