From the only good day I've ever had photographing this species. Not sure what you'll think of the OOF vertical stripes at right - they're a mixture of last year's dead and this year's live cattails.

7D, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 400, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 5/13/11, cropped to 67% of original image, cloned out a very small piece of fiber or something hanging down from the top of the frame, sharpened bird and perch, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not set up or baited

Sweet! I have only had one good day with this species as well and you put me on the area. I love the detail on the bird and reed in the larger image. Just spectacular. I also love the BG. Sure a nice consistent smooth BG is nice, but this BG adds some real stand out elements IMO. I would love to have taken this shot.

Wonderful! I like the singing pose and I like the stripes...that's where they hang out and they're blurred nicely. Very well done. Sharon

wonderful pose, Ron, great details and nice comp also. I like the bg (although I like the darker reed at far right just a little less for not fitting the color scheme of the others as well)--the oof verticals are a nice rendition of Marsh Wren habitat.

Just a lovely shot of the bird! The open beak for the song, the eye, the detail are all good. The bird is suc a commanding presence in this photo, the OOF cattails are not a bother at all.

Sweet, Ron. the verticals don't bother me. They're sufficiently oof not to be obtrusive and give the sense of habitat. Great singing pose.

The marsh wren shot we all wish we had!
Perfect pose, singing, great detail.
BG doesn't bother me at all with a shot like this.

A,ong your best posts, Ron, and that's saying something. I've found this species to be incredibly difficult to get out in the open...

Great pose, Ron! Perfect techs and good DOF. I don't find the background distracting.

Excellent job getting this in the open! :toast:

BG is fine for me, although it would have been good to get a clean one. A classic pose captured for this often noisy Wren.

Ron, Can't imagine why anyone would take issue with the vertical reeds...these guys hang out in the marsh (obviously) and not sure how you could achieve anything else...plus I have tried getting a shot of this species several times and they are very hard to fin in the marsh. Nicely done!! :toast:

Superb wren shot Ron. I like the vertical in both the perch and background. The bird is nice and sharp and well exposed! :toast:
