Another image from my wonderful trip to Argentina. This was one of my favorite birds but it proved to be rather skittish. I was pleased to find that when it was in the orchard at the lodge I was able to get a bit closer.

Nikon D300s, f5.6, ISO 200, 1/2000, 300 plus 2 times teleconverter, tripod.

Thanks for looking and critiques appreciated.

May: Sweet image! That looks like it would be one tricky exposure to pull off and hold the details in the bird. You did a great job with it. Nice work.

Really a cool looking bird May. Great job on the exposure. I take it that is an orange hanging from a branch in the BG.

Well handled, May. I especially like the orange OOF framing the birds head. The rest of the BG is pleasing as well.

Great looking bird and the whites are well handled. The OOF orange (?) in the BG is a bit of a distraction

Excellent - I like this very much as posted.

What family is this bird in?

Added: A quick Google search found: Tyrannidae family, the tyrant flycatchers.

Wow, what a stunning bird. Looks marvelous against the citrus colored background. The bird reminds me of a Gray Jay in general conformation, or a Clark's Nutcracker, with reversed colors. The white on the head is just a little bit bright on this monitor, but not much. I might suggest just a touch more room at the bottom for composition. Thanks for sharing this interesting bird.
