Yellow Lotus

Yellow Lotus, Nelumbo lutea. Not sure this brief description that I found on Wikipedia is of this exact water lily pictured here. Any info on ID is as always appreciated by me.

Yellow Lotus, Nelumbo lutea. Found from south eastern North America to northern South America, the American lotus has pale yellow scented blossoms smaller than those of the sacred lotus.

This is an old photo that I always liked for it's dark shadows and bright sunshine lit bloom and lily pads, taken with an 8 megapixel Panasonic DSLR. It was very noisey and I've de-noised to a degree but the bloom edges are a bit jagged and perhaps still some noise. Hit me with you thoughts. Is it worth my post or should I have looked for something else?

Data lost.

Large view provided.

Thanks for comments.

Love the dappled light on the lotus Charlie as well as the color and arrangement of the pads. I also like the darkness in the image. Beautiful presentation and image.

Sorry no help with the id, none of my field guides cover this type of flower.

Charlie, I *think* I see what you're talking about on the very tips of the petals, but I don't see any noise. In the larger view you can see the very rich colors, especially of the lily pads.

Charlie,

Beautiful, rich color here! I think it is a great post, and in the larger version, the noise doesn't seem to be too pronounced--to my eye, anyway. I like the placement of the flower and the gorgeous detail in the lily pads.

Noise does not appear to be a problem, Charlie. Only negative I see is the bright spot just to the right of the flower. That appears to draw the eye away from the Lotus.

Sun-dappled shade an interesting touch.

Carol

Nice Charlie. Often floral imaages get negative comments if the aren't bright but I think the dark moos of this one works very well. A little more detail in the shadows on the left maybe but still very nice. :toast:

Charlie, This looks more like a Waterlily to me but I am not very positive. I like the fresh specimen and how you handled the difficult lighting situation. A polarizer might have helped get rid of that highlight next to the Lily/Lotus.

Charlie:
I also favor this as a lily rather than lotus but not 100% sure from this angle. The dappled lighting makes this interesting. Apart from the highlight on the lily pad, everything else looks fine.

Thanks all for comments. I don't know a water lily from a lotus so my ignorance for this. As to the highlight it was a personal choice to keep it as for me it gave a nice contrast to the lily pads. I'm not saying my way is the right way and I'd like to hear if it is to you a real downer for any of you.

Charlie.

Charlie: I like this kind of light despite it being hard to work with. I also wish the highlight wasn't there but so it goes. I would actually crop this a bit from the left side. The empty space there doesn't work well for me since the right side is so nicely filled with the pads. I go along with Ram and Gary on the ID. Nicely seen and captured. >=))>

One more vote for minimizing the bright area next to the flower, and maybe darkening the urc some to keep the eye from leaving the frame. Still, it's definite keeper with a lot of interest and beauty.
