Sometimes you do get lucky. This was spotted by my friend who I coach every weekend in Abstracts and Close-Ups. I am thankful to him.

ND200, 200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/11, 1/40 Sec, ISO200, Overcast conditions and Tripod. I wanted a bit more depth of field but it would mess up the background.

Thanks a lot for your comments on Arrows and do let me know if this finds any favour with you.

I have a D300s on order and have also acquired AFS 60mm F/2.8 Macro lens from Nikon. Next weekend I should be shooting with the new D300s.

Ram:
Congrat on getting the D300 and the damsel. Not waiting for the D800?

I like bugs and flowers and seeing both in the same image is just a treat. They seem to go well together in this photo. When I get bored of the flower, I just go down the frame and admire the DF and then go back up again to flower.

Congrats on the 300s Ram but mostly congrats on this image. For my tastes the balance between subject clarity and bg softness is perfect here. Beautiful colors and about as representative image of late summer as I can imagine. Again, a very fine image for my tastes. Love the warm color palette.

Beautiful photo, Ram. I like the combo of insect and flora. Wonderful comp, blurred BG, and lighting. Great natural scene!

I like the composition and the leading line here though wish for some more DOF on the flowers. Enjoy your D300s... the extra FPS will come in handy for those quick moving flowers

The flower is great and the dragonfly is great. Getting both against that beautiful soft BG is exceptional.

Ram,

How's the saying go? Luck favors the prepared? Luck or not, you nailed it. Great nature moment. I'm absolutely loving the bg here, it really has a water color look as well as texture. Fabulous capture.

You kept a wonderful balance here me thinks. The overall blend of soft colors and nice detail on your 2 supjects reveals care in you choices. At F11 that BG must have been far away.

Very nice, Ram. Perfect BG and colours. Maybe some more room at the top and the bottom would work fine.

Good job of keeping the damsel and the flower in focus. It's also a very nice pairing with both elements looking so delicate.

This is really a beautiful photograph, Ram. I reminds me a lot of John Shaw's work. F/11 worked perfectly for both subjects and background and you obviously took great care to stay in alignment. Very nice work!

Nice. Beautiful dof for the detail in both bloom and bug. A nice natural looking bg, too. Really well done.

The background is so lovely and makes such a perfect backdrop for the portrait of the damsel fly and chives! This tells a story as well. Excellent!
