This is the picture from last year of the nesting hummingbird ....... I was looking for some action shot of kingfisher , when I was standing on the bridge over the river I spotted the nervously flying hummingbird (male) and after couple of minutes I found the female sitting on the nest. The nest was built over the river on the branch wide as a pretty skinny forearm, diameter of the nest could be around 2 inches, the nest was sitting on very wildly grown tree hanging over the river, I could photograph them just thru the narrow gap (on not windy day..) between the leaves, the closest distance between my lens and the nest was probably 12-15 feet and 15 feet over the water, which means no good use for any multiple flashes at all !
Broad-tailed Hummingbird

Verdon the nest itself makes a nice image and a smashing little bird on the top of it ,like it a lot.

Excellent, Verdon. Looks like very good detail in the Hummingbird and the nest.

Nice find. Hummers on the nest are very cool subjects. The bird feels a bit under exposed. A touch of fill flash (maybe at -1 2/3 or so) would have filled in the bird, and enabled control of the brighter background.

you are absolutely right Keith about the flash, but the problem was with tones of leaves around, I did try flash but only thing what I got was shadow from the tree, thank for looking... :wavey:

Interesting images with the limitations of location and lighting noted. Still, a difficult find and capture. Thank you for sharing it.

Hello Verdon,
I have never even seen a wild hummingbird and certainly not a hummingbird nest. This is really nice and a very good photo as well.

Great interest, especially for us birders out there. I look each year on our land, still have not found a hummer nest myself..
Congrats! :wavey:
