Hibiscus

Decided to visit a local wildflower preserve in an attempt to photograph some different subjects and give my macro lens and tripod some use... well as soon as I got there I was immediately distracted by American Goldfinches but eventually I pulled out my macro and got to work and even did some "abstract" stuff.

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR
tripod
f/7.1
1/200s
ISO 320

Full Frame, curves adjustments in ACR, smart sharpen and noise reduction in CS5 on 27" iMac

Nicely done, Luke (and do show us those abstracts also, later). One would usually like the nearest points to be in focus but you cleverly overlapped them with the background OOF pollen pods so they are no longer a problem. Good focus highlighting the fine hairs on the stamens !!.

Very nice Luke and the detail is excellent. You could crop into 5:4 from the right if you wanted but purely subjective. Good to see you posting here.

Really nice use of selective focus Luke. Well seen, captured and displayed in my opinion.

Nice intimate view of this hibiscus. I like your comp and focus point.

Luke,

Like Pat, I think you could crop in from the right here; you're not taking away anything that's not already in the image (soft bg) and I think it might be a little better balanced. But that's very minor. I'm really liking the soft color contrasts here. I'm also wishing that one of the heads of the stamen(forgive my total lack of plant knowledge) was more in focus, but as has already been pointed out, the little hairs provide that detail. So in the end, I think this is wonderfully captured.
