This evening I felt the desire to mix things up - so instead of kayaking to a local tern colony I headed to a wildflower preserve nearby that I have neglected to visit all summer. There were plenty of butterflies, birds and flowers to shoot so I was like a kid in a candy store.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH

1/800s
ISO 640

Luke:
Nice capture of the monarch. I have seen you get consistently sharp images hand holding this long non VR lens.. many kudos :toast:

Luke, this is really nice, wonderful that it's full frame, great composition. Very sharp, and besides the butterfly I really like both the foreground and the blurry background.

The narrow DOF gives us a really nice feeling of depth - and the flowers provide a sense of place. This is really nice, Luke!
