Red Rock Coulee, Alberta

I made this shot a couple nights ago on a quick trip to Red Rock Coulee. I have actually desaturated the image a little and removed lots of magenta from the original daylight white balanced shot. I have been looking at t his for so long I'm going cross eyed! I would love some honest opinions on the colour of this one... does it look natural, or does it look like I have cooked it in photoshop?

By the way, very sorry for my lack of participation lately, I will try and contribute some more whenever possible.

Thanks in advance for any comments. (sorry accidentally uploaded a small version in the large photo area... can't get rid of it!)

Wow, It is amazing
the upper part (sky) is excellent
the Lower part is well balanced especially the moon gives it an amazing composition
for me it doesn't look like you have cooked it in the photoshop

Well Done :wavey:

Quite nice how the boulders are spread over the landscape. I love their texture and look and the clarity throughout the shot is very good. Honestly - I immediately thought something is wrong with the color temperature. The ground feels too warm for the very cool sky and you might have to take a step back towards the original.

Good composition, even though the horizen is centered, and a very interesting barren landscape. I do find the brightness of the land a bit strange though. In the evening or early morning the sky is usually a lot brighter than the land.

Wayne, nicely-balanced scene with good colours and fine detail.
However - I'm not a landscape person - it feels like "something is wrong". The colours of the sky don't match the land. I think Andreas said what I couldn't express very well.Worth a bit more work, I think

Thanks for your honesty everyone! I will go back to the original and give it another try. It's a difficult one because the the magenta really overtakes the original. I will re-process and post it again later. Thanks again everyone!

Lovely image Wayne. I like the comp a lot. I'm on an uncalibrated monitor so I can't comment on the color balance very well, but it looks ok to me - I'll check again when I get home tonight.

Its a simple comp with no real strong element to pull the eye (except for the lovely light) but I really enjoy this image. It has a nice overall feel good feeling to it. I think you processed this perfectly.

I like the scene, but would consider adding saturation back to the grass and rocks to balance better with the sky. This s cattering of rocks is nice, and I'd try to play it up in the image, again, maybe with saturation.

Simple comp but it works for me Wayne, colours are nice too. It doesn't looked over cooked at all but I'd maybe try darkening down the land a tad though.

Cheers, Gary.

Lovely image and a very interesting composition. I like the previous suggestions for darrkening the land a bit. Other than that, I think this is a great image
