Taken at Fort De Soto, Florida. The spoonbill was moving away from two guys with long lenses who made a lot of noise and disturbed the birds. I wasn't very happy with their behavior and the birds didn't seem to be either.

D200, handheld while low in the water, f7.1, 1/750, ISO 250, 80-400mm VR at 400mm, natural light.78% of original frame. Larger version provided.

As always I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques.

Terrific! These are such beautiful birds, one I have yet to see. This certainly inspires me to head south for a chance to photograph them though...wonderful shot. :toast:

Mia, your sharpness, color and low POV are always amazing. I like the detail in the Spoonbill and the little plant just in front and below the bill set it up for me. This is my favorite spoonbill image so far.

Really nicely done, Mia. Detail, lighting and framing are excellent. Would like to see in a bit shallower water, but they don't always cooperate. Bet you miss Ft D. Do you think you'll be be getting back there anytime soon. If so, please keep in touch.

Beautiful, Mia. Perfect dof to leave a little texture in the reeds and very nice light. The small plant sin the water adds a nice balance point.

beautiful, Mia--this has a nice calm feel to it. really nice setting, with the reeds, the water, and the little plant in front of the bird. a beautiful subject too, it seems to be gliding through the water. getting a chance to shoot a couple of spoonbills was definitely the highlight of my week in FL in March.

awesome subdued lighting, nice low angle good reflection and the composition is good. I like how the end of the bill leads to the bit of vegetation poking out of the water.

Signature low angle, spot-on exposure and wonderful work on the pinks and reds. Really nice, Mia. The 500px shot is simply delightful. The other folks must have been really noisy to disturb the habituated Spoonbills at Ft. De Doto. But their loss is your gain.

Such a beautiful bird! I love the way you've captured the subject in slow motion, as it were, and the way it's eye appears to be looking straight at you. Lovely shot Mia, thanks for sharing :^)
