Entrance to the Narrows in Zion

One of those rare days last week when sudden rains created a short lived waterfall. Located along the Virgin River in Zion Park, Utah.

Cropped from both sides to create as a panoramic.

Nedly! Glad to see you guys are home from your trip! This is magical dude! Love the grey water against the cliffs, and the trees open up enough space for a great comp! I shoulda known youd post a waterfall shot first

This is a great shot. While normally personally don't like long shutter speeds on waterfalls, it works for me here. I do think the image is stronger without the little path in the foreground though. It's not particularly pretty and it distracts from the subject (waterfall.) Yes, it adds a nice strong diagonal, but here I think that takes away from and competes with the much prettier waterfall.

Hey Ned,

I've played with this falls a lot over the years, but never with results quite this good. That lower bit just above the trees really pulls it together for me. I'll be the contrarian and say that I like the path, as it kind of invites the viewer into the photo, with the falls as a destination. Great for travel and people-in-nature applications, though as Kent points out, it would be a distraction for a pure landscape shot. Amazing how prominent that single red rock is in the LRC!

Nicely done!

Ned, I'll play the peacemaker and say either way with or without the path, this is a great pano. Love the colors of the rocks against the water and the FG trees are a great contrast. I especially like the one atller tree on the left that seems to "heighten" the falls even more. Nicely seen.

What a great image. I'll try something different and say that I'd like to see the path cropped off about halfway. As is, it's to strong of a part in the image for me. But wow, what a lovely falls. Great comp and technicals!

This looks great in pano format Ned. I also like the idea of cropping some off the bottom.

Ned old buddy, you snuck this in on me and I like it a lot. I missed that angle and you didn't. Great job on such a nasty rainy day.

With the trail, I think this would be a much more compelling image with one or two hikers in colorful clothes to spice up the fg, but without them I like it better without the trail. Just my 2 cents worth .

I agree Jim... I left the trail so I could post in this, (the best forum in my opinion), forum.

Ned, I really like the pano crop on this. The color of the trees and the rocks is superb with the taller tree accenting the height of the falls. I think cropping off the trail makes this an even stronger image though.

For the most part, I really like this. But I'm with those who say it'd be a much stronger image if you cropped out the foreground below the trees. It simplifies the composition.

Nice one, Ned. They don't call you "Falls Fenimore" for nothing, eh?

I'll join the crop crew, I'd say to go right up to the leaves on the trees. I'd also suggest making it a bit brighter.

Congrats on the EP. :toast:
