This was at the first session at my little woodland pool which has had no water for weeksuntil I put some in two days ago. This bird turned up at 7:45 - last evening- quite dull as you can imagine.
I was just messing around playing with camera settings not expecting much to turnup, and he was so close even at the 100mm end that it was what you might say "a bit tight "

Not too bad for 1250 ISO - f8 @ 50th second.
D7000 Sigma 100-300mmf4
full frame virtually. Bit of canvas added . It really wastight.
No sharpening - I pass neat image. Levels etc to brighten things up a bit.
Cheers

Not to bad that's for sure! I think you have caught a good pose, the colors look fine as does the sharpness. thanks for sharing with us.

Yes, very good detail of a colorful bird. I've never seen one of these. Crop could be done in various ways I'm sure you thought of, John. A verticle, I'd think would work well with a significant part of the left removed.

What an interesting looking woodpecker, I have never heard of a Green Woodpecker before. I like the detail, look and head turn the bird is giving to see some more of the wonderful feather/color patterns, nice job in getting this, well done.

Very nice, John. A neat looking woodpecker in an unusual setting for them. Good detail, even without sharpening. I think I prefer your second crop, though I might add a touch of canvas to the top of it (if I were competent to do so).

Thanks all. Yes Dennis - that's the problem- needs more top and bottom. Would be a a quite difficult one to do with the bottom especially being so messy. Next time I'll cough and maybe it'll go a bit further away !!  :toast:
