Wow the deer really stands out nicely from that beautiful dark background ! Its difficult to see at this size, but i think i would have preferred the focus to be on the eye rather than the nose. But thats really minor.

I like the way the deer is framed in the composition, slightly lighter background right behind the deer and then almost a vignette effect around the edges. I think Anand has a point about the nose being the sharpest part of the head. Did you really shoot this with a 40mm?

Thank you guys for comments, in larger version the eyes and head overall is sharp, it was my mistake I took the shot with 100-400 mm canon lens, thank you for interest!!!

I like the effect you are going for, but to my eye the vignette is a little dark (purely subjective!) I think the mule deer is nicely exposed and what slight differences there might be in focus on the face is within the realm of sharpening tweak.

I like this a lot Verdon, the dark BG really makes this deer stand out. Just out of curiosity; Is the vignetting natural or did you apply/enhance it in post-processing?
