This was taken back in mid May and was found in among field rye grass. I haven't posted it before because the image always seemed flat and with no "life", so to speak. I recently treated it with a "crosshatch" filter at the lowest settings of length and sharpness and it gained life IMO. I'm posting it now here in "Flora" and think it will be acceptable, but some may think it should be in photo art. I don't look at this as manipulation of the image but it has been enhanced with saturation, sharpness boost and of course with the aforementioned crosshatch filter.

Olympus E-5
50mm F2 macro
1/1.3 sec @ F13, - 0.3 EV
no flash
Light from a window on the right and a bounce light on a backdrop cloth in back and to the right side of subject flower
ISO200
manual focus
tripod
Approx 90% of FF

Large view provided

As always comments and critique is much appreciated

This is very nice Charlie, the light is excellent and you nailed it. Although very artistic it's certainly a legitimate photograph IMO, but that's a whole different discussion.

Good as is. Is that the true color? Looks a bit like a pea vine of some sort (Lathyrus spp).

Phil I think you pointed me in the right direction. I've done some quick searching and some of the other lathyrus species are close enough that I think that will be the family.

Thanks.

Charlie,

I certainly have no problem with this being in Flora. Simple but very elegant. Beautiful light and color as well.

The sharpness of the flower is outstanding, as is its separation from the background. I don't see what the crosshatch filter did...guess I'll have to check it out, assuming it's in PS.

Mark the crosshatch that I use in on a MS program "PhotoDraw" which I've used for over 10 years. I believe PS has a crosshatch, I just don't know anything about it. The thing I like about the MS program is that filters don't use slider adjustments and I can make much finer adjustments to effect with it. The effect here is very subtle as I wasn't going for art just wanting to get some pop.

Simple and sweet image Charlie, without your great control of the BG it wouldn't be the same. Great work.

Charlie, I love super clean frames like this  . What a superb looking flower - reminds me of a dog cat with ears erect trying to sniff something  . The light is great as well.

A relatively minor thing (really a non-issue, makes me think if I should mention or not) is the slight DOF fall off for the stem on the left.
