Baby Blue

This newbie was acting out early one Spring morning around 7:00
The bird was just outside my minimum focusing range, so I lost the wing ends. Did a close crop comp, my only real option.
Had to use a fairly slow shutter, so the bottom part of the beaks blurred a bit from movement.
But I like the personality of the baby bird on display here..
F/6.3, 1/250th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext and natural overcast light. Cropped to 5.6MB

A real "personality shot" alright, Howard! Nice sharp eye and detail in face and breast. The beak motion blur doesn't bother me. The crop immediately caught my attention though. However, I can't figure out a better crop under these circumstances. You might try lowering exposure on the right wing a bit. Very expressive face on this bird!

You got the perfect head turn to make this work Howard and the open bill adds to the behavior. I can almost hear the squawking...

I'd like to see the full frame before judging the crop decision you made here.

The head profile is very nice and like most young birds it is a charmer.

Cool shot of this fledgeling bird with a wide open beak and open-winged stance

Excellent cute factor, and minimal motion blur under hat appears to have been pretty low light.

Great pose, Howard, and I don't mind the chopped off wings. As you noted, lots of personality.

Love that pose and baby face. I like your choice of crop leaving one wing more than the next.

I like seeing close ups and checking out feather patterns and detail, especially when you have good eye contact, way to go.

Crop works pretty well, all things considered. The attitude and pose more than make up for the drawbacks of losing the wings. Great capture.
