Nine-leaved Desert Parsley (Lomatium triternatum)

I thought the nearly leafless stem and the large, flat umbrell made an interesting subject. I cloned out some of the more distracting blurs from the bg. Thanks for looking. Suggestions appreciated.

Nancy, A plant I have not seen before. I like the manner in which the stem comes into the frame in a curved fashion and star bursts within the star burst. You can also make an alternate composition using a square frame.

Nice photo

It does make an interesting subject. It stands out well from the dark BG. As an alt comp, you could obviously rotate this 90 degrees ccw and then crop some off the top (now right side).

Nancy:
This looks similar to a fatsia which I recently scanned - starburst giving rise to more starbursts. Intriguing pattern.

You may want to darken the main stem and add a little canvas along the bottom edge.

Interesting subject Nancy and I like the bg. I think the suggestions you've already received are good. Of those I'd add a little space to the bottom, darken the stem and probably crop to 5:7 or 5:4. I like the image as posted however.

Very nice treatment of this subject. The background really helps it work well. I see lots of croppng suggestions, so I throw in one more. Instead of crowding the frame, I think I'd like to see a bit more space around the plant. Great job getting it all in focus at f/5.6

My apologies. I went back to implement some of you excellent suggestions for improvement and have somehow lost this file. If I find it, I will try again to post what you suggested. Just didn't want you all to think I just ignored your advice. thanks again for your comments

Nancy: Well seen and nicely captured. I can go along with the square crop suggestion but this does work for me as is. I especially like the light. Nicely done.>=))>
