Peter,

I like this. It reminds me of a charcoal or pencil drawing. It also reminds me some of Dain Tasker's X-Ray images, which I admire very much. If you think of Art as being comprised of the elements of line, shape, color, value, composition and mood, then this is mostly the use of line to create composition, suggest shape and convey mood. I think this is a very strong image in that respect.

I have two reservations about the image: Roughly the upper one third of the image is darker than the bottom and I don't know that, that accomplishes anything. I also wish the chalk marked looking area in the upper third on the viewer's left, was lighter or that the texturing there was a little finer.

I'm impressed with the image. I've repeatedly tried to use back lighting to create line drawing type images and this is certainly better than anything I've done. Very fine work.

Really well done. Like Pat said, looks like a charcoal drawing. Very artistic vision to achieve this. :toast:

Peter:
I can see why you like this. Certainly artsy and abstract looking. Also like the repeating pattern and softness. A suggestion to address Pat's comment about the darker upper third is to perhaps crop about 1/5 from the top and make this 4x5 rather a square crop. Overall a very engaging image.

Peter, My wife does charcoal paintings so this is exactly what it is and it appeals to me. I like the inclusion of dark tones in this photo and it looks like a very old charcoal painting (in a good way).

Gary,

Thanks for the suggestion. Here is a reworked and cropped version. I appreciate the help with this as I now like it even more.

Peter,

The rework is a much stronger image for my tastes.

Very imaginative image, Peter ! The sketchiness of it is truly appealing - like a line drawing indeed. I do prefer the repost - it gives more emphasis to the focal points. What I chiefly admire is that, despite being pretty abstract, you sense the seed heads perfectly.

Two glasses for a toast. Peter, I love this ethereal, immaterial image.
Take care.
