Bears On a Kill

With my impeccable timing, I arrived at this scene JUST as the pack of wolves that had killed the caribou bull disappeared into the nearby brush (I heard them howling), and the bears set up camp. Hours and hours of time in the field and still not a single decent image of a wolf. Sometimes ya take what you're given and learn to be happy with it.

Cheers

Carl

Great capture even if you missed the wolf opportunity. Please explain the scene. is that water in the BG? Will the kill dissapear with high tide? I really like the wayt he cub is hugging the antler.

Hey Ed,

Thanks for the comments. Yes, that's water .. the kill was made in a riverbed here .. so the water is not tidal at all ..it's glacial run off .. not costal.

Hope that helps. Thanks again.

Cheers

Carl,
I have seen quite a few shots from what I guess is this kill and I do believe I like this best.

You are correct wild wolf photos don't usually come easy.

WOW, this is awesome. You may have met my friend Don Jones at this site!? Judging from some images that he sent me, he was shooting this scene a little to your right. Awesome capture catching the whole family at rest like this. I'm green with envy.

Wow, Carl. You made the most of an exceptional opportunity. The cub and the antler is absolutely outstanding. I saw Don's stuff too, and have been drooling ever since. Next time, call me....

Hi Carl,

Very very nice photograph! I was also there that incredible day and happened to be one of the lucky guys watching as the wolves took turns feasting on the carcuss. I've been watching NPN for more than a year and you have finally inspired me to make my first post, I'll attempt to post one of the wolf images of that day soon.

Carl, was this on the west fork of the Toklat River, in early September?
If it was, I was there early on, shortly after the wolves took the caribou down. I shot for several hours and got some extraordinary shots of both adult wolves feeding.
This was a life time event for me!
The next day all that remained was the rack!
Its going to be hard to tp this event for me.
